Eyes On NJPW: The 5 Best Wrestlers In NJPW

By @TrueGodImmortal

New Japan Pro Wrestling is honestly the best thing going in the business right now. With all of their great content and huge events, I wanted to take a moment and discuss the best of the best in NJPW. Let's take a look at the top 5 wrestlers in the company right now.

5. Tomohiro Ishii

-One of the toughest workers in the company is undeniable. He's 41, and he's a hard hitting, no bullshit type of competitor. He's had so many great matches in NJPW, showcased his talent, and is a certified legend in the business. One of my gavorite matches is his battle with Shibata this year. It was a grueling contest that went back and forth and showcased just how fierce of a competitor Ishii is.

4. Hiroshi Tanahashi

-A near 20 year veteran, Tanahashi is still one of the best in the world and there's no denying that. A big leader in the resurgence of NJPW as the clear cut no. 2 wrestling company in the world, Tanahashi has been on top of his game for years now, and shows no signs of letting up. This year, he's showing how great he is even more, fighting through injuries and recapturing the IWGP Intercontinental Title from Naito. Tanahashi may be getting older, but like many legends in Japan, age doesn't slow then down. He will be a top tier competitor in NJPW for a few more years at least.

3. Tetsuya Naito

-This is one of my top 5 favorite wrestlers all across the board right now personally (AJ, Omega, Okada, Seth, Naito), and he's been on a roll to say the least. Match after match, Naito shows he's one of the absolute best and his feud with Tanahashi over the IWGP Intercontinental Title is one of my favorite feuds in wrestling in recent memory. He's had great matches against Ishii, Tanahashi, Juice Robinson, and Michael Elgin so far this year, proving he's at the top of his game.

2. Kenny Omega

-In reality, Omega is more like 1B to Okada's 1A and they tend to switch places depending on the day. Omega is extremely talented and his style is unique in a way. He completed opened more eyes in the US by having a strong showing the last year and winning the G1 Climax in 2016. His road to Wrestle Kingdom 11 led him to one of the greatest matches ever against Okada, and one of the greatest rematches in history as well. He's currently the first IWGP US Champion and he has a third match with Okada on the way. Omega is my 2nd favorite wrestler in the entire business and he's my personal favorite in NJPW for good reason. It's his time to shine and he's owned every minute of it.

1. Kazuchika Okada

-The IWGP Champion is still king in the company. With his massive push in the company over the years and his consistency in the ring, the man who can deliver the Rainmaker at any time is the best of the best in NJPW. Between him and Omega, it is really a 1A and 1B type of situation, as they are truly at their very best when against each other. Okada has showcased his skill unlike any other and the best part about his run is that he's still pretty young. Okada shows no signs of slowing up and he's already a legend in NJPW. He may go down as one of the greatest we've ever seen when his career is finished.
