ROH TV 7/16/16 Review

By @Headliner5

Hello, wrestling fans and welcome to another ROH TV review from yours truly, I am Nathan and it's been a while, but I'm back as we move onto the set of tapings after the Best In The World PPV that took place back in June. This particular episode features the final ROH appearance of Mr. ROH Roderick Strong as he looks to expand his horizons within the wrestling world.

Match 1
Kamataichi vs. Jay White

Thoughts:
This match comes straight outta New Japan as Kamataichi takes on young up and comer Jay White. The bell rings and Kamataichi jumps White right from the start to get the early upper hand. White makes his way out to the ring apron, but Kamataichi knocks him off onto the outside. Kamataichi follows White out and throws White into the barricade numerous times. Daniels (who accompanied Kamataichi to the ring for this match) hits a lariat on the outside on White while Kamataichi has the referee distracted. Kamataichi wraps White's leg around the ring post before we head to a commercial.

Back from commercial and Kamataichi hits a dragon screw leg whip on White, then follows it up with a figure four leg lock, but White eventually finds his way out of it. White recovers long enough to hit a desperation DDT, then follows it up with a brainbuster and then goes to the top rope to hit a missile dropkick for a near fall. White hits a uranagi for a near fall, as The Addiction make their way to the ring and attack him, but the Motor City Machine Guns run in to even up the odds. From here, the match would turn into a six-man tag match.

Match Result: No Contest (due to the match turning into a six man tag team match)

Match Rating: **1/2

Match 2
Kamataichi and The Addiction vs. Jay White and The Motor City Machine Guns

Thoughts:
Kamataichi hits a dropkick right away during this portion of the match for a quick near fall. Sabin finds himself in the wrong corner and is doing his best to fight out of it. Sabin hits a DDT and makes a quick tag to Jay White. Jay hits a powerslam on Daniels and goes for a pinfall but it's quickly broken up. Jay White hits the Kwee Wee Crusher on Daniels to pick up the win via pinfall.

Match Result: Jay White and The Motor City Machine Guns defeat Kamataichi and The Addiction via pinfall.

Match Rating: N/A

From there, we head to the next match of the night.

Match 3
Shane Taylor and Keith Lee vs. Victor Andrews and James Anthony

Thoughts:
If you didn't see this match you didn't miss much, this match was a squash straight out of a late 80's/early 90's house show. Lee and Taylor won the match via pinfall after a powerbomb top rope splash combination.

Match Result: Shane Taylor and Keith Lee defeat Victor Andrews and James Anthony via pinfall after a powerbomb top rope splash combination.

Match Result: N/A

After the match, War Machine hit the ring in order to try and get a measure of revenge from an earlier attack, but they are unsuccessful as Taylor and Lee get the upper hand.

Next, BJ Whitmer makes his way out to the ring.

BJ grabs a microphone and says that this chapter in the rivalry between Steve Corino and himself may be over, but the book has yet to be finished and the rivalry is far from over.

From there, we go to the main event of the evening, which features Mr. ROH's final ROH match (for now anyway).

Main Event - Match 4
Roderick Strong vs. Dalton Castle

Thoughts:
The match begins and Castle quickly muscles Strong over with a suplex in the early going. Strong recovers and picks up Castle and throws him stomach first onto the top rope. Castle makes his way onto the apron, but is knocked off by Strong. Strong then takes out both of the boys who are at ringside with a baseball slide dropkick.

Roderick slams Dalton's leg into the ring post on the outside before rolling him back into the ring to pick up a near fall. Strong throws Castle onto the mat gut first with a suplex to pick up another near fall. Roderick climbs up to the second rope and jumps off, but is caught by Castle who dumps him onto the mat with a suplex. Strong rolls to the outside, but is quickly met by Castle, who hits Strong with a suicide dive through the bottom rope. Back in the ring, Castle hits a dead lift German Suplex for a near fall. Castle hits a side suplex before following it up with another suplex. He follows it up with a third suplex before pinning Strong for a near fall. Strong recovers and blasts Castle with a running knee strike, and then hits a knee in the corner and follows it up with a superplex off of the top rope. He then hits a double knee gutbuster and a Sick kick for a near fall in one hell of a sequence. Dalton recovers long enough to capitalize on Strong by hitting a Bang A Rang to pick up the win via pinfall.

Match Result:
Dalton Castle defeats Roderick Strong via pinfall after a Bang A Rang.

Match Rating: ***

Fun match to end the hour and a great send off for "Mr. ROH" Roderick Strong, Ring Of Honor wont be the same without him.

That however will do it for me and this review of ROH TV, a fun episode this week with some skippable parts, but overall a good way to spend an hour if you are just looking for some good wrestling to watch.

-Nathan
